The Ministry of the Interior has a total of 6,203 active cases of gender violence in the Canary Islands in the VioGén System up to July 31, as per the latest report from the Ministry of the Interior gathered by Europa Press. This represents an increase of 142 cases compared to the previous month (6,061), coinciding with the summer period.
In the archipelago, the VioGén System has documented 3,183 active cases of gender violence involving minors under the care of the victim. Specifically, 79 are considered high risk, 1,033 medium risk, 2,935 low risk, and 2,156 undetected cases.
On the other hand, Interior data reveals that by July 31, there were 91 cases in the VioGén System involving minors at risk of assault by their mother’s abuser (9 more cases than the previous month). Among these cases, 9 are classified as high risk and 82 as medium risk. Furthermore, there are 8 cases of minors in a situation of high vulnerability.
Nationally, the VioGén System records 95,203 active cases of gender violence as of August, an increase of 3,069 cases compared to the previous month (92,134), with 49,594 involving minors under the victim’s care. Among them, 26 are at extreme risk, 1,562 at high risk, 14,363 at medium risk, 41,972 at low risk, and 37,280 undetected cases.
Andalusia has the highest number of active cases at 25,096, followed by the Valencian Community with 15,614, the Community of Madrid with 11,769, the Canary Islands with 6,203, Galicia with 5,417, Murcia with 5,335, Castilla-La Mancha with 5,297, Castilla y León with 4,719, the Balearic Islands with 4,222, Extremadura with 2,547, Aragon with 2,471, Asturias with 2,040, Navarra with 1,830, Cantabria with 1,343, La Rioja with 806, Ceuta with 263, and Melilla with 231.
Moreover, there are 1,643 cases involving minors at risk of being assaulted by their mother’s abuser, 72 more cases than the previous month. Among them, eight are at extreme risk, 202 at high risk, and 1,433 at medium risk. Additionally, there are 139 cases of minors in situations of high and extreme vulnerability.
Overall, 29 women have allegedly been murdered by their partner or ex-partner in 2024, with a total of 1,273 victims since 2003 when data collection began. Furthermore, nine minors have become victims of gender violence this year.
