The Santa Cruz City Hall, through the Mobility department, has indicated that the pilot test of the bus lane at The Teresitas has been successfully completed. This bus lane has been operational during several weekends in the months of June, July, and August. Sufficient data has been gathered to evaluate the effectiveness of the initiative, which was implemented on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the summer months to ensure accessibility for the residents of San Andrés, as well as for the residents of the villages in the Anaga massif.
Despite this, Mobility Councillor Evelyn Alonso stated that traffic studies will continue in the area. This includes an assessment of the parking spaces along the San Andrés seafront avenue, the newly opened area at the beach’s head, and the beach’s own parking lots. Alonso emphasised that “we will keep implementing initiatives, measures, and alternative solutions to enhance mobility in this area of the capital’s coast, including improving public transport flow to prevent traffic jams and delays.”
It is important to note that the data gathered so far shows that the buses have been used by over 22,000 passengers on the days when the bus lane was operational during weekends, specifically on Line 910 (Interchange-Las Teresitas). Additionally, thanks to the bus lane measure, the travel times were reduced to approximately 30 minutes or even less. In contrast, on weekends when the bus lane was not in operation, the journey from the Fishing Dock to the beach entrance took over 40 minutes.
