The Urban Planning Department technicians from the Santa Cruz City Council have taken action to block off the exterior of a building on Ramón y Cajal Street. The building, located at number 10, experienced debris falling onto the sidewalk last Monday night. This is not the first time that the building has caused the facade to collapse onto the street due to its poor condition. The Urban Planning Department had previously instructed the owners’ community to take necessary protective measures to prevent harm to others.
Despite nets being placed in some parts of the facade following previous incidents, further debris fell on Monday night. Upon inspection, it was found that other sections of the building were not adequately protected. Consequently, the Urban Planning Department has initiated disciplinary proceedings to enforce corrective measures recommended by the property’s authorized technician. Failure to comply with municipal orders may result in a coercive fine.
In 2022, the Urban Planning Department launched a total of 1,272 disciplinary proceedings, resolving 1,069 of them. Comparatively, in the previous year, 1,088 cases were initiated, with 1,495 being resolved.
