The Tenerife Council will be coordinating special security measures in the Teide National Park this Monday in light of the Perseid meteor shower. The island authorities will be increasing the presence of environmental agents, Local Police of La Orotava, the Canary Islands Police, the Civil Guard, and park staff due to potential large gatherings of people.
Blanca Pérez, the island’s Councillor for Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies, has emphasised that “this year will not offer the best view of the Perseids spectacle,” as it is scheduled between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., making it difficult to observe the meteor shower clearly at night.
Pérez has urged the public to adhere to instructions and respect the regulations. “They must understand that in case of an emergency, they cannot park on the roadside or other areas. The roads need to be clear for evacuation,” she emphasised. In line with this, the Tenerife Council has requested the Teide Cable Car to provide additional parking space, as pointed out by the councillor.
