Preparations are underway in the municipality of The Lagoon to celebrate the International Youth Day with the event “The Young Lagoon“, happening this Saturday, August 17, simultaneously at three iconic locations in the municipality – El Polvorín de Taco, Las Mantecas park, and Punta del Hidalgo. This event, organised by the Department of Youth and Education of the City Council, aims to emphasise the vital role of the youth as agents of change in society, providing them with a space for expression, interaction, and sharing of experiences,” highlighted Sergio Eiroa, the municipal head of the Area, during the official event presentation held this morning at Plaza Hermano Ramón.

The event, coinciding with International Youth Day, was graced by the presence of the Director General of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands, Daniel Morales; and the Councillor for Youth of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Serafín Mesa, both institutions collaborating in the event. The event also garnered support from various departments of the local Corporation such as Municipal Services, Culture, Environment, Citizen Security and Autonomous Body of Sports.

Eiroa expressed, “We want the event to showcase the vibrancy and commitment of our young people, who are and will remain the foundation upon which the future of La Laguna will be built,” emphasising that “this event aims not only to entertain but also to create an inclusive and family-friendly space for dialogue, coexistence, and participation.”

Meanwhile, the Director General of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands, Daniel Morales, stressed that “it is no coincidence that we are here in La Laguna. This municipality is one of the focal points for young residents and visitors, and it is crucial to engage with places where young people congregate.” “I am aware that great things are accomplished in La Laguna, and this Saturday’s activity programme is a clear demonstration of that,” he added, urging everyone to participate not just for leisure and enjoyment but as a platform that shines a spotlight on youth talent, “showcasing collaboration between the Government, the Cabildo, the City Council, and stakeholders in the sector, which is unquestionably the right approach to work for the betterment of the youth.”

The Councillor for Youth of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Serafín Mesa, also underscored the importance of united efforts from the authorities. “During these summer months, many young people remain in Tenerife, and it is essential to provide them with access to various recreational and educational activities in which they can participate. The Cabildo has allocated resources to support inclusive youth initiatives in different municipalities, and this Saturday, we will enjoy one of those initiatives,” he stated, commending the participatory process implemented by the municipal Youth area to incorporate the youth’s suggestions in the programme.

Throughout Saturday, from 10:00 to 18:00, over 40 free activities will be taking place in these three areas of the municipality (Las Mantecas, El Polvorín, and Punta del Hidalgo), including XL games of parcheesi, dominoes, and goose, scalextric tracks, trampolines, zumba, table tennis, retro gaming areas, driving simulators, virtual reality, dancing, bicycle, and pedal car circuits, table football, skateboard and BMX workshops, hockey, calisthenics, billiards, ping pong, inflatable climbing wall, training, and other recreational opportunities.

Concerts recommended by Los 40 Canarias

Starting at 6:00 p.m., a series of concerts will kick off and continue until 11:00 p.m. Endorsed by Los 40 Canarias, the lineup will feature notable Canarian artists from the local music scene, offering a diverse range of styles and genres appealing to different tastes and age groups.

Among the performers, Renzzo the Selector, stands out, renowned as one of the most beloved DJs among the youth, celebrated for his fusion of urban and Latin sounds with hints of funk, soul, and electronic music. Also making a comeback is Soul Sanet, a group established in 1995, credited with introducing hip-hop, R&B, and soul sounds to the Canary Islands. Following a period of hiatus, the members have reunited, preserving the essence of their music, which remains timeless and infectious.

Joining the lineup is the singer and songwriter recognised for her socially conscious messages and advocacy, Mel Omana, who will bring her urban music to the stage in La Laguna. Additionally, Ledes Diaz, a young singer and composer known for garnering millions of views on the internet with songs reflecting everyday experiences, will offer a distinct blend of bachata and urban rhythms in his latest single “Historia de 3” to present a special performance for enjoying the summer in La Laguna this Saturday.

Kiddy, formerly known as Kidd Guetto, will blend contemporary sounds with Latin roots music, incorporating Cuban son, salsa, and cumbia, creating a unique and captivating style for the audience. Another artist gracing the stage will be the young DJ Neizan, only 10 years old from La Cuesta, who has already showcased remarkable talent, particularly in genres like old school, house, and drum and bass. His passion for music has positioned him as a budding talent in the local music scene, expected to attract a considerable following.
