The safety and mobility of residents in Benijo will be ensured starting tomorrow by the Civil Guard, the Canary Islands Police, and the Local Police. This action comes as a response to the events of last weekend, when the coastal area of Anaga experienced congestion due to poorly parked cars, blocking residents’ access to their homes. This information was provided by Gladis de León, the Councillor for Road Safety and the district.

This week, the Santa Cruz City Councillor chaired a meeting with the relevant authorities to address the mobility challenges faced by residents and visitors of Benijo. The responsibility for the road lies with the Cabildo.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Local Police, the Canary Islands Police, the Civil Guard, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), officials responsible for Mobility and Roads on the island, the director of the Anaga Rural Park, and the island’s Environment director. The aim was to coordinate efforts to ensure mobility and accessibility for residents in the area, as well as to manage public transport operations.

“In light of the challenges observed last weekend with irresponsible parking hindering residents’ access to their homes and blocking public transport, which serves Benijo, we have reached an agreement with the Civil Guard to regulate traffic in the area. Additionally, the Local Police and the Canary Islands Police will work together to ensure mobility and accessibility on this road by coordinating efforts and potentially imposing sanctions on those who park in restricted areas,” stated De León.

De León noted that despite the closure of Benijo beach due to landslides, ensuring user safety is still pending. The dining establishments in the area, including those in Almáciga, are open, with most having their parking facilities. Officers will guide drivers to appropriate parking spots.
