SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 7 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The head of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, has praised the latest unemployment statistics, which show that the island has experienced the biggest decrease in the number of jobless individuals. Data from the Active Population Survey (EPA) for the second quarter reveals that the unemployment rate in Tenerife is currently at 13.7%, the lowest in the past two decades.
In July, the number of registered unemployed individuals in Tenerife has declined. Presently, the island has a total of 70,120 jobseekers, marking a reduction of 4,184 individuals compared to the previous July, translating to a year-on-year decrease of almost 6% (5.63%).
Rosa Dávila emphasises that these figures are particularly noteworthy when viewed in a regional context. Across the Canary Islands, the total number of jobless people stands at 163,488, with a decrease of 8,995 individuals compared to the same period last year. The reduction in registered unemployment in Tenerife continues to contribute to the overall decline in joblessness in the archipelago.
On a different note, the President of the Cabildo highlights the rise in Social Security affiliates to 395,660 in July 2024, signifying a 4.02% increase compared to July 2023, resulting in 15,290 new jobs. This growth contributes to the overall figure for the Canary Islands, which recorded 33,245 new affiliations, totalling 906,870 affiliates, representing a 3.81% year-on-year increase.
