The Island Council of Tenerife, through the Roads and Mobility department, has commenced the construction of the northern ramp of the footbridge roundabout of Father Anchieta in La Laguna. The works are scheduled to continue until Friday, August 9, involving the closure of Trinidad Avenue from Glorieta del Padre Anchieta to Pedro Zerolo Street during the night.
As per a statement from the island authority, the construction involves the installation of the first of four ramps, measuring 16 metres in length and weighing 19 tonnes, which will serve as the starting point of the pedestrian walkway from Trinidad Avenue.
The pedestrian walkway of Padre Anchieta consists of a large central ring and three access ramps (North, East, and Loop). Currently, five out of the eleven modules for the central part of the infrastructure and all four of the northern ramp modules have arrived on the island. These will be built in the first half of September. Meanwhile, preliminary work will be carried out in August to assemble the provisional formwork to ensure the stability of the central ring during construction.
Island President Rosa Dávila praises this project as “one of the most innovative infrastructures in Europe, improving mobility for around 50,000 vehicles and enhancing safety for the 20,000 pedestrians who use it daily. It will efficiently connect urban areas, universities, and the transport interchange of La Laguna.”
Mobility Minister Eulalia García states that the Grand Pedestrian Ring of Padre Anchieta will enhance traffic flow in one of the most congested areas on the TF-5, facilitating the movement of vehicles and pedestrians with increased security measures and improved mobility.
The Island Council of Tenerife urges drivers to adhere to the guidance of the road department staff and the signage in the area, taking all necessary safety precautions.
