The Tenerife Island Council has lifted the prohibition on lighting fires in recreational areas following the improvement in weather conditions. Therefore, starting from today (Tuesday 6th), the normal regime of mountain use and protected natural areas, as established in laws and regulations pertaining to fire prevention measures, will be reinstated.
According to Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, “Although weather conditions have improved, caution must still be exercised when engaging in activities in the mountains, especially those that could pose a fire hazard.” She also emphasised the suspension of agricultural burning to mitigate the risk of forest fires.
The Government of the Canary Islands’ General Directorate of Emergencies has lifted the pre-alert for extreme temperatures and the forest fire risk alert, effective from 9:00 p.m. yesterday (Monday 5), following the abatement of high temperature conditions affecting the midlands, high regions, and summits of Tenerife.
