A multitude of individuals have gathered at Plaza de España in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to demand “justice” and protest against the purported deception in the recent presidential elections in their homeland. The Venezuelan community wanted to make their stance crystal clear.
Clothed in attire adorned with flags, Venezuelans residing on the island have united with the various protests taking place globally.
The figurehead of the Venezuelan opposition, Maria Corina Machado, has called for demonstrations across the nation, notably in Caracas, as well as across the globe: “We prevailed on July 28th and now we are set to claim what is rightfully ours in Caracas. We are gaining momentum and as a united front, in every city and village in this nation, we will step out together to reaffirm our truth: ‘WE WON’, we won!”
In her statement, Machado condemns the authorities for “pursuing and abducting law-abiding citizens simply because they worked to safeguard everyone’s votes.” “Tomorrow, as a united front, proudly holding your flag, in a peaceful and spirited manner, we will gather across Venezuela! In Caracas, we will convene at 10 am on the main street of Las Mercedes,” she declared in her message, concluding with the words “VENEZUELA WILL BE FREE!”
Meanwhile, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has accused “opposition thugs” of plotting “an assault” in Caracas on the forthcoming Saturday during the demonstrations.
“I wish to report a new scheme that is being devised for tomorrow, Saturday (…). Some of these commando groups, armed with grenades and other weaponry, are strategizing an assault tomorrow in the Bello Monte neighbourhood (Caracas),” Maduro stated in remarks broadcasted by the state-owned channel VTV, alluding to political faction groups in the campaign of opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia.
