This weekend, the Island Council of Tenerife maintains the prohibition on creating fires in leisure and outdoor areas (such as BBQs, bonfires, gas stoves, or cookers), using any machinery or tools that could produce sparks (such as brush cutters, welding equipment, or circular saws), and the use of any pyrotechnic materials in high-risk zones.

Smoking is also not allowed in recreational areas, camping sites, campsites, hiking trails, viewpoints, and other public facilities located in the mountains.

The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, stated in a release that there is still a threat of forest fires and that level 1 precautions are in place, so “we must remain vigilant across the entire island with any activity that could lead to fires.”

Therefore, it is forbidden to discard lit cigarettes and matches – whether on foot or from a car window – as well as to set off rockets, firecrackers, fireworks, or any other fire-containing devices in hazardous areas, including open fields, agricultural land, or especially residential areas surrounded by woodland.

In addition, residents living in homes situated in the interface zone are encouraged to keep their surroundings tidy, trim branches that touch their building’s facade, and have essential firefighting equipment (such as hoses, axes) and a water supply prepared.
