The Mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González, and the Minister for Rural Development, Alexis Hernández, announced yesterday that the Icod de los Trigos Cooperative Society, in collaboration with the council, will once again host the Local Product Market of Los Realejos at Casa de El Llano today and tomorrow to offer their potato harvest at reasonable prices.
Adolfo González stated, “Following the success of the trial run on the 29th and 30th of June, where Los Realejos farmers sold 4,690 kilograms of potatoes to customers from both the municipality and other parts of the island, we have organised this new event to support them in selling the latest harvest produce. This Saturday and Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., residents have the opportunity to purchase locally grown potatoes directly from the farmers.”
“We continue to emphasise the importance and benefits this brings to the local economy, the preservation of our agricultural landscape, and the encouragement it provides to farmers and families for better nutrition. By consuming locally sourced products and engaging directly with the producers, we invite everyone to visit the Local Product Market of Los Realejos this weekend to experience the quality of Realejos potatoes at fair prices with no middlemen,” the mayor added.
The Minister for Rural Development stressed that “We understand the challenges faced by the agricultural sector, including competition from foreign potatoes and other factors, and as the local administration, we are committed to supporting their needs.”
