SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 3 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of La Palma will allocate 6.5 million euros to the construction of 35 homes in the municipality of El Paso, primarily for people affected by the Tajogaite volcano, an initiative that will be developed thanks to the transfer of land made by the City Council of the town for this purpose.
The island president, Sergio Rodríguez, has highlighted the commitment of the current government team to continue providing housing solutions on the island, especially for those people who lost their homes in the 2021 eruption and who continue to live in prefabricated wooden houses or in those of the El Pino Urbanization, in addition to responding to the demand for social housing in Tazacorte.
Sergio Rodríguez has also highlighted the role played by the island’s town councils in this “very necessary” reconstruction process so that the island can “advance socially and economically” after the effects of the volcano and the pandemic. To this end, all island councils have been provided with funds for the acquisition of land.
For her part, the Councillor for Housing, Ángeles Fernández, has highlighted the importance of the Cabildo having these powers to speed up actions that can alleviate the problems of La Palma’s citizens and start implementing “real” solutions to the housing problem that La Palma has.
Meanwhile, the mayor of El Paso, Eloy Martín, has stressed the need to provide a response both to the people who have lost their homes due to the volcano and to the people of the municipality who require a housing response. “The City Council has provided land to enable the construction of houses in an agile manner,” he explained.
