The city council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to reopen the bus lane to the beach of The Theresies tomorrow, Friday 2nd of August. The initiative aims to encourage public transport use among beachgoers and improve access for residents of the area.
This trial period will run until Sunday, August 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The council has noted a positive increase in public transport users choosing to visit San Andrés and the beach during the previous pilot test.
Data shows a 16% rise in bus passengers since the implementation of the bus lane to Las Teresitas. Councillor Evelyn Alonso highlighted the success of the test weekend, with over 23,000 bus passengers recorded during the three days it was active.
The district councillor, Gladis de León, emphasised the importance of improving mobility and accessibility for San Andrés residents and optimising communication within the region through these tests.
Tenerife Intercity Transport (Titsa) stated that the journey time from the Interchange to Las Teresitas is now under 30 minutes during peak hours, reducing congestion and enhancing comfort for public transport users with additional stops.
The dedicated bus lane runs from the exit of the Dársena Pesquera on the TF-11 highway to the El Castillo de San Andrés roundabout, catering for buses, taxis, and motorcycles, ensuring smoother traffic flow and enhanced safety.
