This week, the Los Cristianos port is experiencing a significant increase in traffic, as the number of holidaymakers departing has spread out from July 31 to August 4, unlike the concentrated peak during Easter.
Approximately 10,000 passengers and 3,000 vehicles are expected to depart from the Los Cristianos port to La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro during the August holiday rush, as reported by Fred. Olsen and Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea to the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
WEEKEND
While this year’s figures are higher compared to last summer, both shipping companies anticipate a surge in traffic starting from tomorrow. Fred. Olsen alone will carry over 16,000 passengers and 4,000 vehicles from Friday to Sunday, with Armas Trasmediterránea also expecting a notable increase due to last-minute bookings.
With this year’s holiday exodus extending throughout the week, the enthusiasm to travel is noticeable not only in the initial days of August but across the entire month. A noteworthy example is Fred. Olsen’s projection of moving a total of 416,000 passengers across the Archipelago from today until August 31.
LAST MINUTE PULL
For the traffic recorded yesterday and today, Fred. Olsen has already accommodated 6,700 passengers and 1,700 vehicles, while Armas Trasmediterránea will transport over 3,000 passengers and around 1,200 vehicles, with expectations of higher numbers due to last-minute bookings.
Prepared for the anticipated surge in the Los Cristianos port, both the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Arona City Council will enhance operations at the southern dock to facilitate vehicle circulation and minimize potential traffic congestion.
