Political Upheaval in Puerto de la Cruz
A recent development in Puerto de la Cruz has seen the Portuense Citizen Assembly (ACP), a left-wing party allied with the PSOE, breaking their local pact and initiating a motion of no confidence against Mayor Marco González, in collaboration with the PP and CC parties.
Reports suggest that the decision to pursue the motion of no confidence was made during an emergency meeting held yesterday, following a year of conflicts and disagreements between the governing partners. David Hernández, the leader of ACP, successfully persuaded the majority of the party’s assembly members to support the motion, despite some advocating for the party to withdraw from the coalition and allow PSOE to govern as a minority, a scenario that fell short by only 14 votes for an absolute majority in 2023.
Had the alternative proposal been adopted, both Hernández and Tito Cabo, another councillor, would have stepped down, leading to a reshuffle of the leadership.
The alliance for the motion of no confidence includes Francisco Linares (CC) and Manuel Domínguez (PP), with Leopoldo Afonso (PP) poised to assume the mayoral position if the motion succeeds.
