### Emergency Rehabilitation Works to Begin on Bridges in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Next week, the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will commence urgent rehabilitation works on the bridges spanning the Santos ravine, located between Plaza de Europa and Avenida Marítima, in anticipation of potential structural failure.
Municipal reports have highlighted the advanced corrosion of the structural supports on both bridges, attributed to runoff impact and the continual corrosive effects of the marine environment in which they are situated.
The municipal governing board approved the declaration of emergency for the works on July 1st, allocating a budget of 2.3 million Euros for the urgent repairs, with a 12-month deadline for completion.
To facilitate the repairs, the surface of Plaza Europa will be closed off to allow access to the interior of the bridge as well as the upper section.
Preparations for the construction area set-up have already commenced, along with the allocation of space for material storage, in preparation for the year-long project.
The rehabilitation will primarily focus on structural repairs to the underside of the bridge decks, including the refurbishment of the supporting pillars to enhance their load-bearing capacity.
Initial work will target the lower sections, followed by upper section renovations within three to four months.
During a subsequent phase, traffic will be restricted, and Plaza Europa will be temporarily closed to pedestrians.
