On the previous Sunday, 28th July, the charity organisation Mercy Ships shut down its information booth situated on the Santa Cruz seafront avenue that was set up in partnership with the Tenerife Island Solidarity initiative of the Cabildo. Over the course of ten days, 1,239 individuals visited the tent, with 133 people (equivalent to 10%) completing a questionnaire expressing their interest in becoming volunteers for the largest floating civilian hospital globally. Gerardo Vangioni, the organization’s representative and president in Spain, emphasised that “the local community has realised that this is not just a typical cruise ship, although it holds that designation, but it offers much more. Furthermore, it is worth noting that it has its home ports here.”
