The Environmental Department of Arona City Council has upgraded the beaches of Las Vistas, Los Cristianos and Las Galletas with improved infrastructure and facilities for accessibility. Las Vistas and Los Cristianos beaches now ensure every aspect of accessibility, making it easier for people with limited mobility to access the beach, from designated parking spaces or adapted public transport to the shoreline.
Specifically, Las Vistas and Los Cristianos beaches have enhanced beach signage for accessibility, accessible transportation options, car parks in close proximity with allocated spaces, accessible pathways (along the promenade), beach access ramps, modified toilets, changing facilities, and showers.
Furthermore, Las Vistas beach features a substantial 500m2 wooden platform, the largest in Spain, guaranteeing access for individuals with reduced mobility to sunbathing and relaxation areas.
On the other hand, Los Cristianos beach has a 120m2 solarium. Within this accessible beach zone, there is a lifeguard station that provides support and assisted bathing services for people with limited mobility, offering specialized equipment such as chairs, amphibious crutches, and a hydraulic crane.
“RECOGNISED AS ONE OF SPAIN’S TOP ACCESSIBLE BEACHES”
The Deputy Mayor and Councillor for the Environment, Sustainability, and Public Services, Clari Pérez, emphasised that “Las Vistas Beach, a recurring recipient of the Blue Flag award, stands out as one of Spain’s premier accessible beaches, thanks to its amenities (accessible promenade, ramps, walkways, modified showers and toilets, accessible solarium, specialized aids like the amphibious chair, aquatic crutches, hydraulic crane), and most notably, the sea accompaniment service offered by the lifeguard team. Las Vistas is one of only two Spanish beaches that provides daily free adaptive bathing year-round. In contrast, Los Cristianos Beach is renowned as the ultimate family beach, securing the Blue Flag for its exceptional facilities and services”.
As the summer season approaches, the Environmental Department has enhanced the sea accompaniment and adapted bathing service for individuals with limited mobility at Las Vistas Beach, adjusting its usual winter schedule to offer extended service hours during summer (from July 1 to August 31). The assistance service will now be available for sea bathing from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00.
