A 35-year-old man from El Rosario has been apprehended by Civil Guard officers as the suspected culprit of a fire that took place on July 14 in La Esperanza. The Judicial Authority has ordered his detention.
The individual was apprehended by officers from the Nature Protection Service Team (SEPRONA) of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Command, in collaboration with the Central Environmental Operational Unit (UCOMA).
The fire occurred in the area known as La Huerta ravine, affecting a 5.2-hectare area comprising abandoned agricultural lands, scrubland, and forest, generating a visible column of smoke from afar.
During the arrest, authorities discovered gloves, a lighter, and a flashlight in the suspect’s vehicle during a search.
The investigation conducted by Civil Guard units received assistance from El Rosario Local Police personnel.
Through a special operation by the Civil Guard in forest fire prevention and response, several fires on the island have been elucidated in recent months. Three arrests have been made thus far, with one individual currently under investigation.
Moreover, authorities are probing the suspect’s potential involvement in other attempted arson incidents and fires that occurred in preceding years. The detained individual, along with the pertinent procedures, has been presented to the Judicial Authority, resulting in a remand in prison.
