VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 29 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Maritime Rescue Service’s Caliope sea guard successfully rescued 34 individuals aboard a cayuco during the early hours of Monday morning, approximately 12.8 kilometres (8 nautical miles) south of La Restinga, situated on El Hierro Island. This information was confirmed by the Canary Islands 112 Emergency and Safety Coordination Centre and Rescue.
The operation, directed by maritime controllers at the Tenerife rescue centre, saw the migrants safely disembarked at the port of La Restinga by around 05.10 hours.
Following their arrival, the migrants were attended to by the port’s medical team, which comprises personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and the Red Cross. Fortunately, all 34 individuals were in good overall health.
