SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, will be enhancing coordination to address the migration crisis by convening a plenary session of the Canary Islands Immigration Forum in the upcoming days. This forum, which brings together all stakeholders at the highest institutional level, aims to tackle this ongoing challenge.
In efforts to analyse the migration crisis further, the president and the Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, are scheduled to meet this Monday in Madrid with representatives from UNICEF, Save the Children, UNHCR Spain, the Red Cross, the White Cross, CEAR, Amnesty International, the Convive CEPAIM Foundation Association, and the ACCEM Association, which specialise in migrant care.
Clavijo aims to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current migration scenario and predictions for the upcoming months through these discussions. With the onset of months offering better navigation conditions, the government is concerned about a potential surge in the Atlantic Route, surpassing the numbers experienced in the initial months of the year when over 20,000 individuals arrived on the coast of the Canary Islands.
Alongside the Minister of Social Welfare, Fernando Clavijo will participate in the plenary session of the Canary Islands Immigration Forum, scheduled for next Tuesday in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The main focus will be addressing the critical situation faced by the autonomous community due to the arrival of over 5,600 unaccompanied migrant minors.
Established in 2000, the Canary Islands Immigration Forum serves as an advisory body to the Government. It brings together representatives from the regional government, the Canary Islands Federation of Islands (Fecai), the Canary Islands Federation of Municipalities (Fecam), the central government, immigrant and refugee care organizations, non-governmental organisations, trade unions, business entities, and community groups.
