The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Jose Manuel Bermudez, will be presenting the restored sculptural fountain in Weyler Square alongside the Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, on Monday, July 29. The event will also have Antonio J. Sanchez Fernandez, the conservator and restorer responsible for the project, and other members of the municipal Corporation in attendance.
The restoration of this renowned fountain, an integral part of the city’s historical legacy, commenced in July 2023 with a budget of 60,757 Euros and an estimated completion time of five months.
This comprehensive project includes the upgrade of plumbing, electrical systems, lighting, and enhancing the waterproofing of the neoclassical marble sculptural fountain, which dates back to 1899 and holds the status of being a Cultural Heritage Site.
Future conservation efforts will focus on preventing water damage, the growth of microorganisms, environmental erosion, and the use of synthetic materials to ensure the preservation of this iconic sculpture at the heart of the capital of Tenerife.
