SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The head of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Group of La Gomera (ASG), Melodie Mendoza, has emphasised the significance of Vocational Training (FP) for La Gomera, as “it plays a crucial role in the future advancement of our youth.”
Within this framework, he asserted the necessity to reconsider or adjust the official ratio of certain courses to the unique circumstances of each region, enabling their implementation across all islands, particularly on non-capital islands.
He highlighted that vocational training is “one of the most effective mechanisms for supporting population settlement and generational turnover in many disappearing vocations, which are indispensable, especially in the non-capital islands, as well as the capital ones.”
According to him, “in the specific scenario of La Gomera, vocational training holds significant importance, given the distinctive features of our island and economic structure, as well as the imperative to retain young talent through a meaningful synergy between the educational and professional domains.”
Melodie Mendoza expressed optimism that “the long-awaited Comprehensive Vocational Training Centre in La Gomera will materialise sooner rather than later, to provide our youth with the vocational education they merit, akin to that offered on many islands but still lacking on La Gomera.”
“We acknowledge,” he reiterated, “that vocational training is among the most effective instruments for driving economic and social progress in our archipelago, playing a pivotal role on non-capital islands like La Gomera, my place of residence.”
