VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 26 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Authorities from the Special Rescue and Intervention Group in Mountains (GREIM) of the Civil Guard, who were conducting a search for a missing German tourist on the island of El Hierro, found the lifeless body of a man late in the afternoon on Thursday. According to the police, everything indicates that it could be the missing tourist, pending confirmation through DNA tests.
The GREIM agents had journeyed to El Hierro to explore extremely steep and challenging-to-access areas between the towns of Taibique and La Restinga, requiring advanced technical expertise. These efforts led to the discovery of the deceased body, as detailed in a press release from the Civil Guard.
Following the discovery, the GES helicopter, in collaboration with GREIM members of the Civil Guard, undertook the extraction.
The search for the German tourist had been underway for nine days, with the Guardia Civil, Civil Protection, GES personnel, the El Hierro Island Council’s Intervention and Emergency Group, AEA, the Red Cross, the Canine Rescue Unit, and the island institution’s Forestry Brigade working diligently and in a coordinated manner.
The prevailing theory in this case is that the man experienced an accidental fall, with the Valverde Territorial Judicial Police Team handling the investigation.
