SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Royal Guard has increased its preventative and monitoring efforts in the battle against wildfires in the hills and forests, deploying two helicopters in service in the county of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

As per a statement released by the Royal Guard, these helicopters are equipped with advanced infrared and thermal cameras enabling surveillance operations to be conducted, both during the daytime and at night, aiding in the preventative and monitoring efforts in combating wildfires and similar offences.

To ramp up the preventative measures during the summer, which might be extended based on conditions, the teams at the bases in the Canary Islands (Tenerife and Fuerteventura) have teamed up to ensure round-the-clock services, seven days a week if needed, concentrating the efforts on the islands with the largest forest areas.

This reinforcement follows a series of recent incidents where several wildfires broke out in the islands of the county of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, investigations of which have led to the arrest of two individuals and another individual being under investigation for causing wildfires or attempting to start forest fires.

They highlight that many wildfires are a result of negligence, therefore, they recommend taking utmost precautions during the summer and periods of high temperatures. It’s crucial to be aware of the pre-emergency level of wildfires as it aids in understanding the level of danger present.

Furthermore, it is advised that when venturing into the hills, vehicles should be driven on designated paths and trails, parked facing the exit and in allocated areas, never off-track. It’s also cautioned that heat from the vehicle engine can potentially spark a fire, among other concerns and suggestions.
