The Municipal Council of Santa Cruz approved the local public holidays for the upcoming year, following a request from the General Directorate of Labour of the Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Canary Islands.
In 2025, Carnival Tuesday on March 4 and May 2 will be observed as local holidays. Due to the city’s founding celebration falling on May 3, a Saturday, it has been decided to move the holiday to Friday, May 2.
This alteration in the holiday calendar for the following year aims to provide a greater number of workers with a non-working day for paid work, which is non-recoverable.
Therefore, based on the authority granted in article 97.5 of the Regulations on the Organization, Functioning, and Legal Regime of Local Entities, established by Royal Decree 2568/1986 dated November 28, the date has been adjusted and approved during the regular Plenary Session held today.
