SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The authorities of the Canary Islands, following the guidelines of Decree 60/2014, have issued an alert for Gran Canaria, El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, and Tenerife due to the risk of wildfires. The alert will remain active as of 07:00 hours this Saturday.
In Gran Canaria, the warning applies to areas above 800 metres in the northern region and above 400 metres on other slopes. Despite a drop in temperatures expected between 27th and 30th July, increased humidity levels in forested areas above 800 and 1000 metres pose a continuing risk.
The authorities highlight the extended meteorological drought, heightened water stress on vegetation, and ample fuel availability as contributing factors to the fire risk. The population is urged to comply with the restrictions put in place by their local councils.
