“It might seem like we’re in the deserted town of Pripyat, but no. We are in Pueblo Chico and this is its poignant tale.” This is how a user on the social network Instagram (@specialsixyt) began a video clip revealing a hidden fact about the place that was once a tourist and theme park on the island of Tenerife.
Opened in 2002, Pueblo Chico was a tourist park whose main aim “was to depict the most emblematic points of the Canary Islands in miniature size,” explained the user.
As its name suggests, Pueblo Chico was a small-scale representation where “with over 50 scale models, visitors could feel like giants in the location.” Moreover, the user pointed out that “even the slightest detail was well thought out.”
What is the background of Pueblo Chico?
The history of Pueblo Chico, which the young individual on Instagram described as “sad,” dates back to 2002, when the place was inaugurated. It was located in La Orotava and positioned itself as a miniature theme park “unique in the world.”

To create it, around 6 million Euros were invested, according to @specialsixyt. However, after thirteen years of operation, Pueblo Chico closed its doors in 2015, and they have remained shut since.
“It marked the childhood of thousands of Tenerife residents and also of Canarians,” the Instagram user stated, expressing a wish for activity to resume at the site so that Pueblo Chico “does not fade into obscurity.”
