A three-day travel symposium hosted on the island earlier last month, the Tenerife Global Summit, is set to compensate for its carbon emissions by converting the equivalent of £2,021, stemming from the 25.2 tonnes of greenhouse gases released, towards the reforestation of indigenous plants affected – and the restoration of wildlife – by the forest blaze in 2023. The endeavour aligns with the sustainability goal of the conference, jointly put together by ULL and Tenerife Tourism in collaboration with the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (Scotland) and UN Tourism.
