SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister for Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, has expressed that today marks “a sorrowful day” after the rejection in Congress of considering the amendment to the Immigration Law to address migrant children arriving in the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla.
“We engaged in negotiations until the very end, but we encountered an insurmountable obstacle. Those who opposed the proposal were not even willing to initiate the parliamentary process. They will need to justify why they are abandoning these minors to fend for themselves. They bear the responsibility,” he conveyed through his official X account (formerly Twitter).
The minister reiterated that the Spanish government “will step up” and affirmed that “we will not desert them, unlike the right-wing parties today.” As per the former president of the Canarian Executive, “they will need to clarify why they are leaving these minors to their own devices. They bear the responsibility.”
