The socialist party made enhancements to the Masca gorge, which had been closed. We initiated the creation of the Visitors Centre and guide service for groups, and we also constructed the pier. Upon the arrival of Rosa Dávila, a decision was made to introduce charges. In an attempt to gain public support, she assured the people of Tenerife that they would be exempt from payment. However, the process was rushed, leading to the Government Council approving charges for all visitors, including those native to Tenerife. We raised concerns about the unfulfilled promise. Rather than revising the arrangement, she enforced a system where inhabitants of Tenerife had to pay upon booking and were reimbursed upon arrival at Masca. In essence, it was a poorly executed plan that Mrs Dávila labelled as an eco-tax.
