SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 21 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A 49-year-old man from San Miguel de Abona was arrested on July 19 by Civil Guard agents as part of Operation Ramnus. He is accused of committing three forest fire offences. Specifically, he is suspected of starting a forest fire and attempting to start two other fires in the early hours of August 15 between the towns of Vilaflor and San Miguel de Abona.
The Seprona of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Command and the Central Operational Unit of the Environment of the Civil Guard (UCOMA) carried out extensive investigations. They were brought in from Madrid to Tenerife to assist in the probe of the incidents and help shed light on the various forest fires that have plagued the island since the summer of 2023.
The Criminal Behavior Analysis Section of the Civil Guard developed a ‘fire-starter profile’, which led to the conclusion that the perpetrator’s motivation was likely impulsive or ‘senseless’, a characteristic consistent with that of an arsonist.
The Civil Guard emphasized the complexity of investigations into such crimes but stated that, thanks to their diligent work, they were able to clarify several forest fires that have ravaged the Islands in recent years.
The Vilaflor Local Police assisted in the investigation. The suspect, along with the evidence collected, has been presented before Court No. 1 of Granadilla de Abona.
