The head of the Tenerife Council, Rosa Dávila, made clear on Thursday that those responsible for setting forest fires “will face the consequences.”
In a statement to the press, the Council president confirmed that various authorities, including the security forces, the Government sub-delegation, the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office, and the Tenerife Council, will come together next Tuesday to ensure that the arsonists are brought to justice.
Dávila expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Nature Protection Service of the Spanish Civil Guard, which recently apprehended an arsonist operating in Vilaflor, Tenerife, responsible for starting 15 fires. Investigations are ongoing to identify those behind the latest four incidents, all confirmed to be cases of arson.
“We are launching a full-scale battle against arsonists,” reiterated the president, noting significant progress in the ongoing investigation to apprehend the culprits.
She also referenced a recent trial against another arsonist who had been active in the Los Realejos region for over two decades.
