The upcoming demonstration organised by the taxi association in the capital, represented by Elite Taxi Tenerife and initially set for tomorrow during the Cook Music Festival, has now been cancelled by the event planners.
The protest’s goal, as stated on social media by the organisers, was to draw attention to the City Council’s lack of action in fulfilling their commitment to revoke licenses, despite the local Government Board approving the recovery of 38 licenses earlier this week.
The association had requested a change of route for the demonstration from the Government Subdelegation, proposing a march along the TF-4 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. However, the authorities denied permission for the chosen time and place.
In their statement, obtained by DIARY OF NOTICES, it was explained that “a demonstration of this scale with an estimated 200 taxi vehicles moving slowly would disrupt the traffic flow around the port, which is a vital infrastructure managed by Puertos del Estado.”
In response, an alternative route along Avenida Tres de Mayo from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a limit of 150 taxis was proposed, but this was not accepted by the organisers.
