The municipal water service in Arafo, managed by Aqualia, announced yesterday that due to the presence of Clostridium P. in recent tests, the town’s water has been deemed unsuitable for consumption by health authorities.
To adhere to the criteria set out in RD 3/2023 for water quality standards for human consumption, the water supply undergoes regular quality control checks, as noted by the health authority in collaboration with the company.
Aqualia has notified the residents that, due to the failure to meet health standards, the water from the public supply should not be used for drinking, eating, or food preparation. However, it can still be utilised for non-ingestible activities such as laundry, personal hygiene, and household cleaning.
Additional samples have been collected for further testing, and the water consumption restriction will continue until lab results demonstrate the absence of Clostridium P. and health officials give clearance, upon which the public will be duly informed.
In response to the contamination issue, Aqualia is actively investigating the source and has arranged for two water distribution trucks for residents to access clean water at no cost: operating from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the town centre (Calle Rafael Clavijo García, 8) and simultaneously in La Hidalga, near the La Encrucijada bar.
