The discovery of Jay Slater’s body was made by the Civil Guard in the Juan López ravine, located in the Masca region of Tenerife. Special Mountain Intervention Rescue Groups had been combing through the trails and ravines for several days in an attempt to locate him.
All signs point to the 19-year-old British national having died due to an accidental fall. A post-mortem examination will ascertain the cause, date, and time of death.
The location of the discovery is very near to where his mobile phone emitted its final signal on June 17th.
He had travelled to the island with some companions to partake in a festival. A video captures a moment of him dancing. After the event, he departed with two individuals he had met that same day.
At 8:15 in the morning, he messaged his friend Lucy indicating that he was going to walk back to their Airbnb. He then informed her that he was disoriented, dehydrated, and left with only one percent battery on his phone before it powered off.
The relentless search effort has spanned 29 days, involving helicopter scans, canine units, and numerous volunteers. The missing individual’s parents enlisted private detectives, suspecting foul play as a possible explanation.
They even received multiple distressing calls hinting at the potential kidnapping or murder of their son. Through social media, his friends shared images and clips soliciting assistance from the public.
Nonetheless, the Military Forces concentrated their search efforts on the rugged and inaccessible terrain where he was eventually found.
Upon the completion of administrative procedures, his remains will be repatriated to Lancashire.
