The family of the British young man, Jay Slater, who went missing in Tenerife on June 17th, has already been informed of the discovery of the body in a rugged area of Masca. This was communicated through social media by detective Mark Williams-Thomas, who traveled to the island weeks ago to collaborate in the search efforts and investigation.
The Guardia Civil announced on the morning of this Monday 15th that they had recovered the body of a young man in Masca and added that everything points to it being Slater. The detective, known in the UK for his work as a reporter on This Morning and Channel 4 News and for the Netflix series “The Investigator”, also stated that a formal identification is expected to be carried out in the next few hours.
Slater arrived in Tenerife to attend a well-known party in the South of the Island but he went missing on June 17th in Masca, from where he called a friend who was traveling with him to report that he was disoriented. That was his last communication and since then the search for the young man in the protected area of Buenavista del Norte began.
Desperation
Shortly after, his family also travelled to Tenerife, to collaborate in the investigation and with the hope of finding the young man in good condition. His mother, Debbie Duncan, and his older brother, Jak, flew to the island as soon as the disappearance was known and have since frequently shown their despair.
The latest was this past weekend when they disagreed with some information suggesting that his son may have disappeared due to some illegal activity and emphasized that the Spanish Civil Guard was actively searching for Slater.
His father, Warrren Slater, has been more critical and although he agrees with Debbie on the “anguish and disappearance”, he has expressed his disappointment with the results of the police investigation on several occasions.
Obviously, none of them have spoken out after receiving the devastating news, but through the LBT Global Association of Missing Persons in the UK, a message has been issued requesting privacy and respect for the family at this time.
