This Monday, the Tenerife Island Council has urged the public to exercise utmost caution in their activities in the border areas and the mountainous regions due to the danger of forest fires following the recent incidents in El Rosario and Los Realejos.
Meanwhile, the Tenerife Fire Department is currently addressing a new fire outbreak that began at 2:55 pm on Monday in Icod de Los Vinos, marking the fourth incident in the past few hours. The fire originated near the main road connecting Icod de Los Vinos and La Guancha.
In an announcement, the council has reiterated the ban on lighting fires in recreational and open areas, the use of any equipment or tools that could generate sparks, and the utilisation of pyrotechnic materials in high-risk zones.
Smoking is strictly forbidden in recreational spots, camping areas, trekking trails, viewpoints, and other public facilities located in the mountains.
These level 1 precautions were enforced by the Tenerife Island Council on July 11, considering the weather conditions and the forest fire risk alert issued by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government for Tenerife.
The council highlights that the recent fires – yesterday in El Rosario and on Monday in Los Realejos – have been successfully contained thanks to the intervention of Brifor, Tenerife Fire Department, Volunteer Firefighters, Civil Guard, Local Police, Canarian Police, and Civil Protection teams.
On Monday around 7:15 a.m., the fire in Los Realejos occurred near the El Lance viewpoint, with over twenty professionals from the Cabildo’s Brifor Operation stepping in.
The response included the deployment of helicopters from the Canary Islands Government and the Cabildo. The fire affected around 0.6 hectares of vegetation in a challenging terrain, and it was declared under control shortly after 11:00 a.m.
Another fire broke out on Sunday night on La Ladera La Pintora Street, in La Esperanza (El Rosario), around 11:30 p.m., and was contained by 4:15 a.m.
The fire impacted approximately 5 hectares of scrubland near residential areas, involving nearly 40 personnel from Brifor Operation, Tenerife Fire Department Consortium, Volunteer Firefighters of La Laguna and Tegueste, Civil Guard, and Local Police of El Rosario.
Additionally, an attempted burglary was thwarted on Sunday between 4:30 and 6:45 p.m., this time on El Natero Street in the central La Esperanza area.
The fire took place in a semi-urban plot, affecting about 0.7 hectares of abandoned farmland with scrubland, fruit trees, and a eucalyptus tree, causing a visible smoke column from a distance.
