SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Health Department of the Government of the Canary Islands has activated a red alert this Friday due to the prediction of elevated temperatures in the municipalities of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and Tejeda in Gran Canaria, expected until Tuesday and Monday, respectively.
The town of Vilaflor (Tenerife) has also been put on orange alert from Saturday to Monday.
An algorithm has been implemented to determine risk levels, taking into account the expected maximum temperatures, threshold temperatures, and risk factors for the 13 meteohealth zones established in the Canary Islands for temperature monitoring.
The areas affected by the rising temperatures are the municipalities situated in the Southern, Eastern, and Western parts of Gran Canaria (34 ºC) and the Cumbres de Gran Canaria region (33ºC).
As for the alert issued for the island of Tenerife, it covers the Southern, Eastern, and Western zones (34º C), as detailed by the Ministry in a statement.
