Dark day on the shores Canary Islands. Yesterday, three men tragically lost their lives by drowning in two incidents, one in Fuerteventura and the other in Tenerife. The first incident occurred at 9:54 am on the Moro Beach, in the municipality of La Oliva. The individual entered the water to rescue his underage daughter who was in distress but managed to safely make it back to shore. Unfortunately, he was swept away and collided with the rocks.
The lifeguards who witnessed the scene immediately contacted the Coordinating Centre for Emergencies and Security (Cecoes) 112 of the Canary Islands Government to report that they had rescued an unconscious individual showing signs of drowning after hitting the rocks.
A doctor and nurse from the Corralejo health centre, along with personnel from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) were dispatched to the area. Despite their efforts to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, they were unable to revive the individual and had to confirm the fatality.
Twenty minutes later, at 10:15 am, the 112 emergency service was alerted once more as two individuals, both 60 years old and residents of Tenerife, were struggling in the waters and unable to reach the shore at the Bocacangrejo Beach in Tenerife (El Rosario).
Local residents managed to pull one of the men, who was unconscious, out of the water. They administered resuscitation techniques until the arrival of the SUC and Red Cross, unfortunately, their efforts were in vain.
The other swimmer was rescued by firefighters, brought ashore where a SUC ambulance team provided medical assistance and attempted resuscitation to no avail.
Earlier in the morning, at 11:20 am, a child was rescued by lifeguards with signs of drowning in a pool at a tourist complex in Arona. He initially showed moderate respiratory insufficiency and had to be transported by ambulance to the Hospiten Sur University Hospital.
