SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 10th July. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The head of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, has secured the “readiness” of the Culture Minister, Ernest Urtasun, to hold “as many discussions as needed” to consider relocating the Guanche mummy of Erques to the island.
During a press conference, Rosa Dávila shared that the minister expressed this inclination to her in an “unofficial” conversation while he was on the island attending the Max Awards ceremony.
Emphasizing that the relocation of the Guanche mummy of Erques, currently on display in the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid, is a longstanding demand from Tenerife, Dávila stated that it is “an integral part of our heritage and should return to its rightful place.”
Dávila highlighted the importance of reaching a mutual agreement and noted a newfound willingness from the Secretary of State for Culture, Jordi Martí, and the minister, a sentiment that was lacking previously.
She argued that the island possesses the required resources for the mummy’s preservation, protection, and relocation, stating that “we have proven to have leading experts in this field.”
