Recognising 40 years of dedication as a journalist for DIARIO DE AVISOS, the recently retired Norberto Chijeb is set to be honoured with the Volcanero 2024 award this upcoming Sunday. The award will be bestowed upon individuals who have made significant social, cultural, and sporting contributions, as determined by the jury appointed by the Mi Barrio El Carmen Se Mueve Association.
The award ceremony for the 2024 Volcaneros del Año Awards is scheduled to take place at Plaza del Carmen in Arafo. The event is part of the Sin Etiquetas Avanza project, conducted by the CajaCanarias Foundation and integrated into the Carmen festival programme organised by the association and the city council.
A DEDICATED CAREER IN JOURNALISM
The jury, convening in March of this year, selected Norberto Chijeb Díaz for the honour in recognition of his extensive work “as a correspondent for DIARIO DE AVISOS and Onda Tenerife, consistently supporting the association in amplifying our voices through the newspaper and radio platforms, advocating for our causes, and contributing to the social, cultural, and participatory journey of the organisation.”
Among the other recipients in this edition are Eusebio Marrero Marrero, acknowledged for his unwavering backing of the group, including a significant donation of a vehicle for the association’s activities, and Juana Mirgen Bénitez, a long-time collaborator of the parish of Nuestra Señora del Carmen during its festivities.
