Ravelo Residents Express Discontent Over Insufficient Irrigation Water Pressure

Salvador Morales owns a farm in the vicinity of La Gustosa hotel in Ravelo (El Sauzal), but despite investing approximately 800 euros a few months back in a connection to Canaragua’s irrigation network and paying a monthly fee of 12 euros, he is struggling to adequately water his crops. This issue is also affecting seven other landowners in the area.

When Morales approached the company to secure a water supply, he was informed that connecting to the network could pose challenges, particularly during periods of low water levels in the reservoir. Seeking help, he then reached out to the mayor, Mariano Pérez (CC), who also cautioned him about the potential difficulties and risks associated with the connection. Despite the warnings, Morales insisted on his right to access the network for watering his land.

Eventually, he agreed to a solution proposed by the mayor and Canaragua, signing a document in which the company absolves itself of any responsibility regarding the adequacy of water supply. This disclaimer was issued as a response to the recurring issue faced by Morales and other affected individuals.

Unaware of the considerable cost involved, which amounted to around 800 euros, alongside the additional monthly expenditure of 12 euros (subject to fluctuations), Morales is dissatisfied with a service that is frequently unavailable to him. He only receives a limited amount of water from the network, which quickly runs out. He deems this situation unfair, emphasizing that he felt compelled to sign the document to at least attempt to establish the connection. Morales believes that the water pressure should be increased, or alternative measures should be implemented concerning the reservoir and the surrounding area, particularly if the agricultural industry is to receive adequate support.

The mayor of El Sauzal reiterated to DIARIO DE AVISOS that prior warnings were given to Morales and other residents in the area regarding foreseeable water supply challenges. Consequently, they were requested to sign and acknowledge these potential issues. The mayor explained that the company was initially hesitant to proceed with the connection to prevent such inconveniences but eventually facilitated the works, shifting the responsibility to the affected party.
