The motion aims to pressure the central Government to honour its previous commitments and refrain from converting the barracks at Las Canteras and Las Raíces into permanent shelters for immigrants.</p> <pJuan Antonio Molina, spokesperson for the conservative group in the municipality, highlights that when the migration crisis began in September 2020, the Government assured that these were temporary emergency measures. The initial estimate was that these spaces would remain open for a maximum of two years.</p> <pMolina highlights that “In April, the Secretary of State for Migration announced an investment of 10 million Euros in the improvement of facilities at Las Raíces and Las Canteras barracks, with work already underway”.
