The Civil Guard from Puerto de La Luz belonging to the Command of Las Palmas, in coordination with the Judicial Police Organic Unit of the Command of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, investigated two women and a man last June, all residing in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the alleged commission of a continuous theft crime and belonging to a criminal group for stealing garments and valuable items in different shops in the shopping centres of the island of Gran Canaria.
The events took place on April 27, when the Civil Guard of the Fiscal and Border Section of Puerto de La Luz was conducting a preventive check at one of the vehicle and passenger reception docks at Puerto de La Luz, where they proceeded to identify three people who were about to embark for the island of Tenerife, using a rental vehicle for this purpose.
During the identification process and as a result of the surveillance that the Civil Guard carries out in these port departures, they were able to observe a large number of products in the car’s boot, clothing from well-known brands, and various accessories with original labelling from different establishments.
The occupants of the vehicle were unable to prove in any way the legitimate ownership of numerous perfumery items, clothing, sunglasses, and handbags from renowned international brands, which led to the administrative intervention of the items.
Immediately, the Civil Guard conducted an investigation to determine the origin, carrying out checks at various establishments on the island of Gran Canaria, confirming that the seized items had been stolen that same day from at least nine different establishments located in different geographical areas of the island, including stores in the Las Arenas Shopping Centre (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ), shopping area Mesa y López (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ), Las Terrazas Shopping Centre (Telde), among others.
The Civil Guard conducted the necessary police investigations and analysed the surveillance cameras of the establishments, which, after intense hours of viewing each of the premises and analysing the totality of the events, allowed them to documentarily and visually prove the involvement of the three individuals as authors of a continuous theft crime and belonging to a criminal group by carrying out each of the related acts typical of this criminal typology.
Upon receipt of the complaints, the Civil Guard was able to verify that the stolen items amounted to €4,967, and the Heritage Group of the Judicial Police Organic Unit of the Civil Guard Command of Santa Cruz de Tenerife proceeded with their investigation on June 19 and 20.
