SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 8th Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The chancellor of the University of La Laguna (ULL), Francisco García, and the Minister of Finance and Relations with the European Union, Matilde Asián, penned a collaboration pact on Monday regulating the bond between the educational institution and the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (Istac), aiming to boost the use of data for statistical goals.
The joint research unit established in 2015 has already conducted ground-breaking research on micro tourist spots or estimates in small regions, as well as the projection of the EPA in the Canary Islands’ island territory.
This pact establishes a broad framework for all activities related to public statistics research and the generation of scientific insight deriving from it.
The deal also covers the planning and execution of various studies, the advancement of monitoring indicator systems, as well as all aspects concerning data handling and analysis.
To carry out this mission, the University of La Laguna will provide Istac with the necessary data for statistical operations, and conversely, Istac will reciprocate by granting access to the statistical information required by the educational institution for informed decision-making within its jurisdiction.
Consequently, the university institution will have the ability to tap into the Canary Islands’ statistical system database, reports the ULL in a statement.
This pact also elaborates further on the scope of the joint research unit, which will be geared towards public data science projects, scientific research endeavours, assistance for the completion of doctoral theses falling under this agreement’s purview, training of scientific and technical personnel, and any other project deemed to be of shared interest.
The primary aim of ratifying this agreement is essentially to chart research avenues by leveraging data and microdata to underpin scientific endeavours.
Utilising this statistical information and other data of the same calibre for sound decision-making, the ULL points out, will help enhance the university’s strategic planning.
