The Tenerife Island Council, through the Mobility department, has initiated works on the direct lane between TF-642 and TF-64, aiming to enhance mobility at the junction from TF-1 to the entrance of El Médano.
The company Transformaciones y Servicios, S.L. has been awarded the construction contract for the project, which involves an investment of 1.1 million Euros and a 10-month execution period.
The president of the Tenerife Island Council, Rosa Dávila, explains that the mentioned lane will allow vehicles to go directly to El Médano without passing through the San Isidro roundabout. “This new direct lane will ease congestion in the San Isidro roundabout area, which experiences significant traffic jams at peak hours.
Congestion is particularly notable at the entrance to El Médano, where an average of 12,400 vehicles pass through daily. Therefore, adds Dávila, it is a crucial improvement to reduce travel times and enhance road safety at one of the traffic hotspots in the southern area of the island”.
Furthermore, it is estimated that with the completion of these works, travel time in the affected area could be reduced by approximately 30%. This means that under normal traffic conditions, drivers could save up to 10 minutes on their regular journeys to El Médano, depending on traffic volume and other factors.
