The commencement of work on the direct lane between TF-642 and TF-64 by the Tenerife Island Council’s Mobility department aims to enhance transportation connectivity from TF-1 to El Médano’s entrance.
The contract for this project, valued at 1.1 million Euros and spanning 10 months, has been awarded to Transformaciones y Servicios, SL.
Rosa Dávila, the President of Tenerife Island Council, states that this new lane will provide direct access to El Médano, bypassing the San Isidro roundabout. Dávila mentions that this initiative will help ease congestion specifically at the San Isidro roundabout, heavily congested during peak hours. The entrance to El Médano witnesses an average of 12,400 vehicles daily. Dávila highlights this as a significant enhancement to reduce travel times and enhance road safety at a major traffic point in the southern region of the island.
The council anticipates approximately a 30% reduction in travel time in the targeted area upon completion of the project. This translates to potential time savings of up to 10 minutes under normal traffic conditions for drivers on their usual routes to El Médano, subject to traffic flow and other variables.
Tenerife Island Council advises road users in the area to exercise caution during the works and strictly adhere to the guidance provided by Road Service personnel and signage.
