The Mobility department of the Tenerife Island Council has initiated a project to create a direct route between the TF-642 and TF-64 to enhance traffic flow from the Southern Highway (TF-1) towards the entrance of El Médano.
The contract for this development has been awarded to the company Transformaciones y Servicios, SL, with an allocated budget of 1.1 million Euros and a scheduled completion timeline of ten months.
Rosa Dávila, the President of the Cabildo, elaborated on the purpose of this new lane, stating that it will enable vehicles to reach El Médano directly without the need to pass through the San Isidro roundabout. She emphasised that this direct route “will ease congestion at the San Isidro roundabout, which frequently experiences heavy traffic during peak hours.”
Dávila highlighted the congestion mainly witnessed at the entrance to El Médano, where an average of 12,400 vehicles travel through daily. She mentioned that this improvement is crucial to lessen travel times and enhance road safety at one of the key traffic points in the southern region of the island.
It is projected that upon completion of these works, travel duration in the affected area could decrease by approximately 30%. Consequently, drivers could potentially save up to 10 minutes during their journeys to El Médano under standard traffic conditions, depending on traffic density and other variables.
The Council advises all users of the aforementioned route to exercise utmost caution once the construction commences. They are urged to take extra care, adhere to the instructions provided by the Road Service staff and follow the designated signs.
